Prototypes existed before the Metal Sonic we see today, including a silver-android version of Sonic called Silver Sonic and Mecha Sonic, who appeared in several games. His final and current form is called Metal Sonic and first appeared in Sonic CD.

Metal Sonic was created for the purpose of surpassing and defeating Sonic. He kidnapped Amy Rose, forcing Sonic to go after them and rescue her. He is sent back in time to change the past, allowing Robotnik to rule the world doing little to no work. He had all of the original abilities of Sonic, and more. Metal Sonic was naturally defeated.

Sonic R

Metal Sonic was brought back to defeat Sonic in the race featured in Sonic R. While Metal Knuckles took care of Knuckles, Metal Sonic and Tails Doll were brought in by Robotnik to outrace Sonic. The two of them failed miserably, with Sonic advancing forward after defeating them.

To unlock Metal Sonic, you must collect all five Sonic Tokens hidden in Resort Island and finish in either first, second, or third place. Once you do, you must race Metal Sonic in the same course, and beat him. If you lose, you will not unlock him.

He controls a lot like Sonic, his steering a bit reduced and his speed increased a bit as well, but it does not match the speed that Super Sonic has.

Metal Sonic looks like a robotic version of Sonic. He has a blue and yellow color scheme, with red shoes and red eyes. His nose is spiked, much like his spiked fingers. His quills are smoother than Sonic's, and he has a shiny texture.

In personality, despite being built to match Sonic the Hedgehog in every way possible, Dr. Robotnik had failed in making Metal Sonic's personality the same as Sonic the Hedgehog's. Metal Sonic is in fact, the exact opposite of Sonic. He is violent, aggressive, cold, and surprisingly intelligent. What can be noted as one of the more noticable traits is Metal Sonic's hatred and obsession with his counterpart.

  • In Sonic Rivals, the villain featured is Metal Sonic 3.0, so logic would assume that Mecha Sonic is Metal Sonic 1.0 and Metal Sonic is Metal Sonic 2.0.
